Beachy.

The August long weekend, one of the Holy Grail's of summer. This year, we ended up in Warkworth, with our chums Sam and Jen. The weekend was gorgeous. Sad for lack of cottage, we decided to soldier on, and find water and a beach to call our oasis for the afternoon. A trip down to Presqu'ile Provincial Park was just the ticket. Avoiding the main beaches, we found a rather isolated spot, with a nice pebbly beach and some picinic tables.

There was some beachkill on the way, though. This seemed to be the beach where many fish (see fig. 2, right), and seagulls, came to rest. A little healthy denial, and keeping the eyes up, helped preserve the illusion.

This is where we ended up:

Sam and Jen enjoy some quiet time with the waves and the sun. Beachin'!

The water was initally really freakin' cold, but after a few minutes to get used to it, was absolutely refreshing.
Nearby was this old lighthouse, part of a chain of lighthouses and former foghorns that was used to keep the waters off of the Park safe(r). Apparently, this is a particularly dangerous part of the lake, with plenty of shipwrecks off shore to prove it. Quite a popular destination for rum-running during Prohibition, too. What we won't do for flappers.

Here's to a great weekend out of the city, and enjoying some of what summer and life have to offer: nice beaches, good friends, refreshing swims, and history.
