Weekend at Cottage, Part 1.
Cottage weekends: gotta love `em. We were lucky enough to receive an invite up to the Significant Other's Aunt's place, near Gooderham (that name reminds me of a sign outside a church in my neighbourhood, announcing the celebrant as Rev. Robotham). While the invite was lucky, the Aunt is not: every time she hosts an event, it rains. This weekend proved no different, though it only threatened rain, the skies misty and grey, at the cottage. Instead, the severe weather hit on Friday, before we even left, and closed the DVP (flood), our chosen route out of town, stretching our evening travel time to over 5 hours. We can also confirm that Mapquest directions aren't great.
Otherwise, a fun weekend was had by all. Plenty of action: canoeing, swimming, off-roading, sitting, eating, taking pictures. Speaking of picture taking, I took plenty, so you'll have to bear with photo-heavy, multi-part cottage entries. Instead of boring folks with one gigantic entry, I'll thrill with many smaller ones. Watch out for frequent updates throughout the week!
These photos will give you an idea of the place, both the cottage and its environs. It sits on Little Glamour Lake in the Haliburton area. Most of the land on this lake was purchased by a lady many years ago, and she has been slowly severing plots for cottages, and ensuring everyone signs a co-op lake agreement (ie: no jet skis, etc). A bit eccentric, perhaps (she lives in a log cottage with a grass roof - not thatched, but an actual meadow that grows back every year), but it makes for a quiet lake, and saves the natural beauty of the location. The Aunt is an interior decorator (quite gifted, I might add), so the inside of the place is glorious and kitschy all at the same time. Uncle is also quite a handyman. The place no longer resembles its original self. All in all, a great cottage getaway.![](//photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5460/1240/320/IMG_2932.jpg)

Love your cottage pics and stories. Would you guys adopt me, please? There are no cottages or cottagers in my life anymore. :-(
